Paul W. Bender

Picture
Paul Bender became a partner of the firm in 2017.

Mr. Paul W. Bender practises law in areas where he can advocate for individuals who make claims against large institutions.  His clients typically entrust Mr. Bender to fight on their behalf to secure benefits or fair and reasonable compensation from government, insurance companies, and insured people, companies, or agencies.  Mr. Bender views it as a true honour to utilize his knowledge and experience to help people, especially those with injuries, and physical or mental disabilities.

Mr. Bender’s practice is primarily focused on plaintiff-side tort claims.  He has represented clients in disputes involving motor vehicle collisions (MVCs), slip-and-falls, the denial of disability benefits, professional negligence claims, and claims involving insurers’ acts or omissions that amount to “bad faith” conduct.  While advocating on behalf of his clients, he has appeared at all levels of court on PEI.

Mr. Bender is also an active member of his community.  He has volunteered on Amnesty International campaigns and has served as a past chairperson for the Social Activist Law Students’ Association (SALSA) in Halifax.  Locally, he is a long-serving board member of PEI’s Community Legal Information (CLI), an organization that helps residents of PEI understand the law and navigate the justice system.  He is also a member of the Law Society of Prince Edward Island and the Atlantic Provinces Trial Lawyers Association (APTLA).

Mr. Bender has proudly served as an officer in the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), earning the Canadian Decoration.  In that role, Mr. Bender excelled by continuously upholding the general principles of respecting the dignity of all persons; serving Canada before himself; and, at all times, obeying and supporting lawful authority.  Mr. Bender’s military training instilled in him certain core ethical obligations and he has adopted them into his legal practice.  Mr. Bender’s clients will see him zealously advocate for their interests while upholding his obligations concerning integrity, loyalty, courage, honesty, fairness and responsibility.

Mr. Bender graduated Summa Cum Laude from York University earning a Bachelor of Arts degree (with honours) double majoring in Political Science and Law & Society.  In addition, he obtained a certificate in Practical Ethics.  In 2011, Mr. Bender was awarded a Juris Doctor from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University and began his articles with Campbell Lea Barristers & Solicitors.  He then became an associate lawyer with the firm, ultimately becoming a partner in 2017.
